Snowflake card

We have a dear friend of the family who has a winter birthday, so I made this card for her.

She loves things with a country flair, so I used a paper that reminds me of a patchwork quilt for the background, and the I cut snowflakes from the Graphically Speaking.  Funny, because my first thought was to grab one of my winter or Christmas cartridges for the perfect snowflake, but after doing a search on CricutSearch.com I decided I liked the snowflakes on Graphically Speaking much better.

Thank you card

Here is another Thank You card that I created.  I used the Gratitude cut from the Calligraphy Collections Cricut Cartridge.  The cut actually says "many thanks" but I only used the thanks part.  Now that I look at the picture, I should have used a color that popped off of the background paper more . . . oh well.

Christmas Card Blog Hop

I am so happy to be a part of my first blog hop, which was organized by Jennifer at www.craftycardgallery.blogspot.com.  If you did not come here from Jennifer's site you should hop over there and then come back . . . she is the official starting spot for this hop.

I am going to share a Christmas card I created, in sort of a "self challenge".

Have you ever bought a pack of holiday themed paper, and then after using it in a few layouts you grow tired of it?  That is what happened with the paper that I used for this card, and my goal was to breath new life into a tired pattern.

I used a Ho, Ho, Ho paper for the bottom two-thirds of the card, and a light green for the top one-third.  To help hid the transition line between them, I cut red and white glitter paper with my Creative Memories wavy cutter and then twisted the red and white cuts together.  For the finishing touch I cut some holly berries and leaves from the Cricut Cartridge Christmas Cheer

Finding the image I wanted to use for this card was SO easy.  Since I knew I wanted to use a holly leaf cut, I simply went to CricutSearch.com and typed in the word holly.  The results . . . 19 different Cricut Cartridge handbooks pages that have a cut of holly on them.   For those of you that don't know, CricutSearch.com is a searchable database of the images on Cricut Cartridges that shows you a preview of the handbook that the image is found on.  It was created by my family.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope that you become a follower of my blog, or join the Fan Page on Facebook.  And while you are at it, make sure to add CricutSearch.com to your favorites so you can find the images you want FAST.  You can join the Facebook Fan Page for Cricut Search also.

Now it is time for me to send you off to the next blog on the hop, which belongs to Courtney

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  This year I feel like I have a lot to be thankful for.  Everyone in my family is healthy, and our new website CricutSearch.com has been a great success.  So many people love it, and the hard work that my family put into it really shows.  We are thankful for every person that uses the site and tells someone else about our site.  In just a little over 2 months it has grown to have quite a following on Facebook and YouTube.

We have even more great things planned for Cricut Search in the upcoming year, and I am hoping that I will soon be able to share some of those ideas with all of you.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Embroidery - Fabrics 101

I have been doing some more embroidery recently . . . pictures of projects to come . . . and those of you that do machine embroidery know that every project is a different fabric and with every fabric you have to approach the way you work with it differently.  Now, I do not claim to be an expert on machine embroidery . . . I would actually place my skills at more of a beginner . . . everything I know I have learned by reading websites and playing with the fabrics, threads, stabilizers, etc.  I really should take a class, but for now I just limit my projects to fabrics I feel comfortable with.

I did find a resource at Embroidery Library that I am going to need to bookmark.  It is their Fabrics 101 article. All you need to do is click on the type of fabric that you will be working with and you will get another article about that specific fabric with embroidery tips, project samples and suggested needle and stabilizer types.

Embroidery Library has some great images on sale for only $1 this week.  If you are looking for some new Holiday themed images, now is the time to stop by and stock up on them.

Make a Turkey Cookie Treat

These are a great little treat that you can make with your kids, and give one to everyone at your Thanksgiving celebration.

You will need:
Fudge striped cookies
Chocolate covered Marshmallow cookie treats
(you can substitute a chocolate covered cherry)
Candy Corn
Chocolate Frosting

Using your chocolate frosting as the “glue” attach one fudge stripe cookie to the flat side of the chocolate covered marshmallow cookie treat, so that you can see about half of the stripe cookie behind the chocolate covered marshmallow treat cookie. The marshmallow treat cookie will be the body of the Turkey, and the stripe cookie will be the feathered tail. Allow the frosting to firm up and harden so that the stripe cookie does not slide off in the next step. Attach the “body” to another fudge stripe cookie that will be the base or feet of the Turkey. Then add a piece of candy corn for the head. If you want to add eyes, I would do that with two little dabs of frosting before you attach the head to the body. Using a toothpick to just “dab” some frosting eyes works well so that you can control the frosting on those pieces of candy corn.

This one is wrapped in cellophane to be given as a gift, but you could even use them as place markers for your Thanksgiving meal by adding a name tag to the ribbon.

I'm going to be in a Blog Hop

I cannot believe it . . . I have had this blog for HOW LONG and I have never been a part of a Blog Hop!  I have looked at others, but I have never been one of the blogs that others will be hopping to!

I know that there is at least one of you that is saying "What is a Blog Hop?"  Well, let me explain.  It is when a group of bloggers get together and team up to feature something they created and then ask you to to and visit, or hop, to another blog.  There is usually a theme to the blog hops, and this one will be the Christmas Card Blog Hop.

Why are blog hops so fun?  Because you get to see how several different people work off of the same theme, and hopefully you will be introduced to some new blogs that you will add to your favorites, and sometimes there are even prizes to be won . . . also known as Blog Candy.

So mark your calendars and forget about the malls, or stop in after you are done at the Door Buster sales . . . just make sure that you stop by!

Cricut Search . . . on Wii

So, my husband and kids were on the Wii the other day, and the next thing I know my husband had pulled up CricutSearch.com right there on the Wii and the images were as big as our television screen.  We have a large flat screen in that room, so it was BIG!!!!!  I had to make a video to share it with all of you.

You know what this means! We need to move our Wii closer to the crafting room. Get off the Wii kids, Mommy needs to get her crafting done!  Check it out for yourself.

Thanks

I always find it a challenge when I need to make a card to give to a man.  I want to use all of my pretty papers, but I don't want the card to look too "pretty" since it is going to be given to a guy.  So for this card I had to try and tap into my masculine side.

I used a multi-striped paper that was a part of a paper pack that was given to me as a gift.  Then I simply picked out a couple of coordinating solid colors and cut the word Thanks from the Opposites Attract Cricut cartridge. If you have been reading my blog in the past few days, you will see a pattern here . . . yes, I used Opposites Attract for all three of the last three cards I did.  I was not planning on that, it is just how it worked out.  That cartridge just had the cuts that looked "right" for what I was doing.  Strange how that works sometimes.

Another Thank You card

Yesterday I mentioned that I needed to make some thank you cards, and I showed you one that I made with a cut from Opposites Attract . . . well here is what I did with the word thanks that came out of the center of the oval from yesterday's card . . .

This one was so easy that it feels like "cheating" to say that I made it.  I cut some patterned paper with a cream/brown/teal color combination to the right size, and just added the word thanks that came out of the oval cut that I used in the card I featured yesterday.  Easy . . . and I was able to use both parts of the same cut, so there were no scraps left over, and nothing got thrown out.

Thank you card

I know that this time of year most people are making Christmas cards, but just the other night I needed to make some thank you cards, and I wanted each one to be as unique as the people I was giving them to.

For this one I used some paper that has teal/aqua swirls, and just a little bit of silver glitter swirl as the background paper.  (I hate that the glitter part does not show up well in the picture)  Then I cut the word Thanks from Opposites Attract inside the oval.  Then I cut a slightly larger oval out of a solid teal paper to back it.  For an added accent I used a brow strip of paper that looks like it is stitched on the edges, which I actually cut from the paper that I used in a different thank you card.

Quick No Sew Project

My daughter just started playing hockey this year, and on Sunday as I was sitting on the cold benches at the ice arena watching her practice I decided that I needed to make something to sit on that would help to make those benches a little warmer.

Years ago I made no sew throw blankets for family members, so I used the same theory for this ice arena bench cover.  Her team colors are red, blue and white so I went to the fabric store and got one yard of red polar fleece, and one yard of a variegated blue polar fleece.  I then cut each of them in half, length wise, so that I had two long skinny pieces of each color.  I pinned one blue to one red piece, and then cut fringe about 2 inches long around the entire thing, and then went back and tied knots with that fringe.  Here is the finished project (throw over a box in the basement . . . pretend it is on a bench at the ice arena)

I think I like the blue side better.

Hopefully it helps to keep things a little warmer at the next practice.  The nice thing is that it is long enough that I think both my husband and I  will be able to use it, and if another parent wants one I have enough fabric at home to make a second one.

Car Decals

One of the new Cricut Cartridges is called Car Decals, and it has those stick people type figures that you see so many people using on their cars.  These would also be great for scrapbooks or cards.  Here is a peek of the cartridge.
